We know of its existence for a few months now, but after the first gameplay Harry Potter: Magic Awakened has definitely caught our attention. Developed by Portkey Games for Warner Bros and the Chinese giant NetEase, Magic Awakened is a cross between an RPG and a card game, set in the universe of J.K. Rowling after the Second Wizarding War, or the one that ends in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Among spells and more or less well-known characters, there are many elements already known to fans, given that you fish with all hands not only from the Harry Potter saga, but also from the Fantastic Beasts series. Several details are also known regarding gameplay. Fights are based on strategic positioning and the use of spell cards. The cards, or spells, are obtained through a classic gacha mechanism, which allows you to receive new elements in the form of pages of books studied in the library. These are then inserted from time to time in a deck so as to have elements to deal with different situations and creatures. It seems that you play with 4 cards in your hand, consumables that can be activated by consuming a magic energy bar represented by the wand at the bottom of the screen. In addition to the spells, there are also creature cards, which can also be summoned on the battlefield in areas outside the school such as the forbidden forest.
You can also attend classes, where you get special cards and gems, which we imagine are one of the game currencies, and you can access the dance mode, where you can dance with various characters. PvP, on the other hand, seems to consist of a rather interesting 3 vs 3 Dueling Club, while the Echoes system for crafting serves to improve the statistics of the deck with potions and objects of various types. The various areas of the school can be reached directly in flight using the magic broom. In this way you can also explore the skies around the school and reach the Quidditch stadium, where it is likely that in the full version you can play real games against other houses.
There is also an editor for the creation of the character through the first events of the story: ranging from the delivery of the admission letter to Hogwarts, delivered by none other than Hagrid, up to the assignment of the house with the talking hat, after a long shopping session in Diagon Alley, where name, appearance, clothes and wand are chosen. The artistic direction is particular and cured, complete with interlude scenes dubbed in English.
Harry Potter: Magic Awakened is currently in alpha stage in China, but it is unclear if it will also arrive in the West. How do you like it? Let us know in the comments below and if you liked the video subscribe to the channel and leave a nice like to support our work.
